What is GSAB?
GSAB's purpose is two-fold: to provide assistance to graduate students in the
English department and to provide a channel of communication between
graduate students and the English Department. We provide this assistance through activities such
as:
Þ
Financial assistance for students presenting at
conferences.
Þ
Fundraisers such as book sales and marathon reading
events.
Þ
Professional development events to help graduate
students who wish to present at conferences, prepare
their curricula vitae, and many other topics.
Þ
Friday
Forum, an opportunity for faculty and graduate students
to share ongoing scholarly projects.
Þ
Social
events to encourage and enhance a cohesive community
within the English Department.
Þ
Regular
meetings that can be a forum for student concerns.
Who is part of GSAB?
Technically all English Graduate students are members of and can be
participants in GSAB. Practically, since we know that most
graduate students lead busy lives, we hold elections early in the fall
semester of each year to select representatives from each area and
graduate level. The representatives agree to attend meetings and
communicate between the board and the members of the graduate community
that they represent. You are encouraged to
participate in GSAB, even if you are not an elected member of the board.
How you can participate
Want to participant
actively to plan events for fellow graduate students? Have a
request for a seminar you would like hosted? Have a great conference
link you'd like to add to the list on the Links page?
