Professionalization Sessions
GSAB holds
events to help graduate students both adjust to graduate
study and to professional careers after graduation.
Some recent professionalization sessions have addressed
writing abstracts for professional conferences, writing
a dissertation or thesis,
Penscape
Penscape provides a showcase for the creative
work of graduate students who are in the creative
writing M.A. (and those who write creatively in other
areas of the department).
Fundraising
Everyone loves
it! Not really, but since we've found that
conferences do not pay for themselves, we host various
activities (including book sales, marathon readings, and
garage sales) to help graduate students pay for
conference travel.
Social Events
GSAB hosts a
welcome party for graduate students at the beginning of
each school year and various activities throughout the
year as time and energy permit. Previous events
have included stress-relieving pizza parties at
semester's end.
